If Marie Peterson hadn't become a renowned interior designer, she
might have pursued a career in couture fashion. "To me, fashion and
personal style are analogous to design. You start with a concept and
plan that has timeless appeal and reflects the client's personality.
In addition to collaborating with your client, you also work with
a variety of other professionals in order to refine 'the perfect look'
and then translate that look into something gracious, comfortable,
and of impeccable taste. To do this with grace and skill is how I
define my approach to interior design."
Marie's career began with a family tradition of travel, study and
observation of the decorative arts. Throughout her life she has traveled
throughout Europe and South America, bringing back an understanding
and appreciation of different regional and period aesthetics. This
was the beginning of her education in creating refined interiors that
range from the ultra contemporary to the most traditional styles incorporating
the finest antiques. This knowledge, although gained at an early age,
continues to influence her work to this day.
Along with a broad lifestyle experience in art, antiques, and design
aesthetics, Marie also pursued a formal education in the technical
aspects of her trade, obtaining a B.S. degree in Interior Design in 1979.
"To me, being a professional requires more than simply having the
right sense of style. It also means mastering the 'nuts and bolts'
of design, including the latest in technology, materials and architecture.
It's this combination of experience that enables a designer to deliver
not just beautiful results but also value to the client."
Marie combined this philosophy, expertise, and her innate sense of
timeless design when she opened her own firm, Chelsea Court Designs.
Marie has been in the Interior Design business since 1978. For more
than fifteen years, Chelsea Court Designs has developed an enviable
reputation for creating the most tasteful and comfortable
environments. Employing a team of six talented professionals, the
firm delivers an unsurpassed level of service and personal attention
to their diverse projects. Her frequently published work ranges from
contemporary high-rise apartments to elegant country estates to exotic
island getaways. Some are clients' first homes and others are interiors
for long term clients who return again and again as their families
mature.
